This spreadsheet allows you to analyze the distribution in the first ball in side-out. It can be used on the bench during the game to see how your team is performing or how the opponent’s play in their rotations. It can also be used for pre-match analysis to better understand the opponent’s game and find the best tactics that can be used against them to help achieve victory for your team. After the match, you can also use this spreadsheet to see how the team performed in particular situations, who received the most balls in each rotation, who was most effective in attack, how the setters behaved, etc.
How does it work?
This spreadsheet can be filtered by a passing player, passing zone, passing effect, and the setter who set the ball in the rally. The distribution is broken by the rotations of the team. In which table we can find:
the player who passed the ball (player)
the effect of his passing (R grade)
passing zone (zone)
setter call
the player who attacked the ball (P#)
attack combination (A)
attack effect (A#)
All these data appear in the table chronologically, so you can see how the first action after reception looked like as the game progressed.
Next to each of the tables, you can find the court with the setting zone and the attack directions of the attempts that we can see in the table. The dots mean the starting zone of the setting in these rallies. The arrows show the attack attempts.
Analyzing all this information may help you understand faster and better what is going on in the court and adjust your tactics for the game.
